Wow!!!! The bass fishing world has just been turned upside down with the announcement of the new Major League Fishing Tour. Seventy of the B.A.S.S. Elite Series Pros and the best of the FLW Tour will make the jump over to the MLF Tour for 2019. This is a major blow for both organizations especially B.A.S.S. which is the grass roots of the bass fishing world. It all started with Ray Scott and the vision he had for anglers making a living fishing. Now, all that is coming to end and no one really knows where this is headed. It’s a gamble for professional anglers to jump ship for what they think are greener pastures. B.A.S.S. has provided stability for these anglers for a long time, but only a few have really capitalized financially. The goal of MLF is to provide more anglers an opportunity to make a living fishing. It’ll be an organization run by anglers themselves. Question is, will it have the longevity of what B.A.S.S. and FLW have provided? Will it be as fan friendly and how will Major League Fishing Tour make that fan connection that B.A.S.S. and FLW have forged through their magazines and tournament weigh-ins? How will this affect the bass fishing industry overall; from the sale of high dollar bass boats to the hundreds of tackle companies that sell product through B.A.S.S and FLW? The one certainty with this major change, only time will tell.
